Showreel Editing

A basic showreel is usually up to 5 clips with opening and closing name title.

Additional titles can be added, such as agent’s logo/Spotlight PIN, can also be added at the end.

Here’s a quick bullet list of things to consider when compiling your reel

  • You should use your newest and/or most impressive clip first.
  • We recommend clips are between 10 seconds and a minute long each.
  • Aim for a total running time of no longer than 5 minutes.
  • Avoid using any clip shot in 4:3 ratio (old square TV) as it can really date your reel!
  • You’re not telling a story, you’re showcasing your screen acting so be prepared to edit down stuff you’re not in.
  • If your clip has a well known actor in it, try not to dote on this too much. Remember, a casting director want to see your abilities, not theirs
  • Avoid doing a montage. You’re an actor, not a popstar!

WHAT DO I GET?

Finished showreels are posted via wetransfer.com in mp4 format. The download will be available for up to five days.

Your showreel will also be uploaded to our Vimeo Channel where is can also be viewed/downloaded. A personalised URL (vimeo.com/actorcv/yourname) will help people access it straight away.

We do not provide a DVD burning service.

wetransfer.com is a free service that allows people to email large clips (up to 2gB’s). We recommend you use this service.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?

Digital Clips

If you’ve digital clips, you should email them to me a via actorcv.wetransfer.com (see above)

DVD’s

I can accept DVD’s in the post, though you post them at your own risk (so make sure they’re not your only copy). Also you will need to arrange an SAE for their safe return. Any extra postage incurred will be added to your invoice.

ActorCV cannot accept any responsibility for items lost in the post.

Timecodes of clip

All DVD’s/CLIPS must come with their start and finish timecode specifying which section to use (i.e. 45m32s to 46m38s). If you wish me to watch whole episodes to find your clip the rate is £30p/hr so it’s cheaper to be prepared!

Copyright (Important)

It is your responsibility to obtain relevant permission for all material in your showreel. Copyright is not the only issue to consider – many producers like to control when and where their product is seen. It may not have been officially released yet by the producers or could contain spoilers so be vigilant and considerate.

FAQ

MY CLIPS/SHOWREEL ARE ALREADY ONLINE – CAN YOU USE THAT?

SPOTLIGHT
It’s not possible for ActorCV to use any copies of any showreel from the Spotlight website
VIMEO
There maybe a clip on Vimeo that you would like me to use – however, clips on Vimeo are heavily protected and owners/uploaders of that clip will need to permit their clip to be downloaded in their settings panel.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The basic showreel package described above is just £99.
This is a good price as long as clients are organised, prepared and provide exact times of the clips they want to use.
Additional work is charged at £25 p/hr principally to cover the situation above. It is rarely required and notice is always given.

AND ONCE I’M A CLIENT?

Unless an entire re-edit is required, future clips can be added or replaced for as little as £25 p/clip.

This is only available to customers who’ve previously used ActorCV for their showreel edits.
